Installation

Each November, approximately 200 volunteer union electricians gather on Monument Circle string the 4,784 lights and 52 garland stands for the centerpiece of Circle of Lights® presented by the Contractors of Quality Connection and Electrical Workers of IBEW 481.  This year marks the 42nd anniversary of this beloved tradition, in which IBEW Local 481 has been involved every year from the start.  Rain or shine, volunteers will be on hand from to complete this arduous task.

Auditions

Thousands of people gather each year to enjoy the annual holiday lighting ceremony on Monument Circle.   There isn’t a better time to show your talent than at the Circle of Lights® presented by the Contractors of Quality Connection and Electrical Workers of IBEW 481. Contractors of Quality Connection, Electrical Workers of IBEW 481, RTV6 and Indianapolis Downtown, Inc. will seek entertainers to perform a variety of acts including, but not limited to, vocal acts ranging from soloists to show choirs and dance troupes. 

Auditions will take place in September and October.  Performers who wish to audition should prepare a number/act using the following specifications:

  • Not to exceed two and one-half minutes
  • A holiday theme is required.  The number performed at auditions may or may not be the number selected for the actual event.
  • Upbeat numbers with appropriate choreography and costuming are required
  • A keyboard and microphones will be provided.  Please provide your own keyboardist.  If you are performing to a track, please format your track to cassette or CD for the audition
  • Stage dimensions are 24' x 16'
  • Group size not to exceed 25 persons

Individuals/groups will be judged on talent, visual presentation, stage movement and commitment.  Selected groups must commit to two evening rehearsal dates prior to the event and from 2:30 - 8:30 p.m. on the day of the event.

Coloring Contest

Kids can color their way to a very special evening!  Each fall there is a coloring contest for the chance to "flip the switch" at the Circle of Lights® presented by the Contractors of Quality Connection and Electrical Workers of IBEW 481.  Kids, age 12 and under, have the chance to pick up a coloring sheet, print one from the website or coloring sheets are available in The Indianapolis Star.  The selected child is announced in November.

Event

Circle of Lights® presented by the Contractors of Quality Connection and Electrical Workers of IBEW 481 will take place Friday, Nov. 26 on Monument Circle.   The event begins at 6 p.m. with the televised show starting at 7 p.m.  This event is an opportunity for the community to join together and celebrate peace and brotherhood.  Those in attendance will surely be delighted with a special appearance from festive entertainers from around the state and the larger-than-life toy soldiers and candy canes adorning Monument Circle.  In addition, Santa will make his first official appearance of the 2004 season.  The event is FREE!
