Imagine earning a valuable education while still making good money, then graduating with a rewarding full-time job complete with health and retirement benefits.

If the light hasn't gone on yet, it will once you learn more about Quality Connection's organized apprenticeship program (iejatc.org), in which you can acquire the skills to be a journeyman (or qualified) electrician in just five years of learn-while-you-earn education.

Our apprenticeship program is managed by the Indiana Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee (IJATC), which is co-sponsored in part by the National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA) and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW).

The NJATC has developed uniform standards that have been adopted and implemented nationwide to select and train thousands of qualified men and women. Today, there are hundreds of local programs offering apprenticeships and training for the following positions:

  • Residential Wireman
  • Journeyman Inside Wireman
  • Advanced Journeyman

More than 20,000 apprentices are currently being trained nationwide in NJATC programs.

Once you've become a member of the IBEW, you'll receive fringe benefits unmatched by other employers. Health and welfare benefits, along with local and national retirement plans, will provide security for you and for your family during your working years. What's more, membership will allow you to enjoy a dignified retirement following a very productive and rewarding career.

Can You Become an Apprentice?

Yes. However, apprenticeship program sponsors are selective. They will evaluate your educational background, looking at specific courses (such as Algebra and Physics) that you've completed, as well as your academic accomplishments. They'll also examine your mental and physical state, your previous work experience, your work record, and your ability to work well with others. Simply put, apprenticeship sponsors will want to know what you have done to prepare yourself for a successful career in this challenging and rewarding industry.
